Bumping up security

Is downtown Westbank a safe place to be?

West Kelowna residents don't think so.

With safety being a top priority of the current council, increased patrols will target several areas seven days a week during August and September.

Communications Supervisor Kirsten Jones says the added security works in a variety of ways.

"You will see a uniform security patrol in the area and it might discourage people from behaving in certain ways, but it also a person I can talk to if I see something".

Security personnel will target the downtown area, specifically around public facilities like the Westbank Lions Hall and the Westbank Centre Transit Exchange.

"We have been receiving concerns with a little more vandalism, a little more loitering, some inappropriate or criminal behaviour like drug use in public and we are hearing around the Transit Exchange that it is not a safe place to be", Jones added.
