Canada Post strikes in several BC communities

Rotating Canada Post strikes have begun in several BC communities.

Employees are striking in Kamloops, Penticton, Vernon, Cranbrook, Quesnel, and Williams Lake. Customers in those areas will not receive mail while the strikes are happening.

The strikes hit the Okanagan from Winfield to Peachland last month, and lasted for a single day. There’s no word yet on if they’ll happen again in the region anytime soon.

Meanwhile, a federally-appointed mediator has been given a four-day extension by the Minister of Labour to help settle the dispute between the two sides.

Negotiations between the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and Canada Post have been going on for nearly a year, with higher wages and job security at the forefront of the discussions.
