Finlay Creek Wildfire grows to 40 hectares in size

A wildfire 7.5-kilometres south of Peachland has grown to 40 hectares in size.

Fire Information Officer Rachel Witt, at the Kamloops Fire Centre, says the Finlay Creek Wildfire, which started Saturday afternoon and is clearly visible from Kelowna, doubled in size from 20 to 40 hectares by Saturday evening.

Witt says windy conditions today have been fanning the flames.

She says 18 firefighters, several air tankers and three helicopters are working to contain the blaze which is located in steep terrain. As it gets darker air crews will be grounded for the night.

At this time, no structures are being threatened – Witt says the closest road to the fire zone is the Munroe Lake Forest Service Road.

There’s no report yet as to the cause.
