Fuhr getting set to play host to caucus

All 183 federal Liberal MPs have an invite to Kelowna in September, as the city hosts the party's annual Summer Caucus meeting.

Kelowna-Lake Country MP Stephen Fuhr says this was a long time coming.

"I've been working on this for awhile. And once I realized there was four opportunities for communities across the country to host summer caucuses, I was quick to make sure that we were considered, and I'm thrilled that we're going to have the opportunity to do it," he said.

He says having his fellow Liberals here will only help in the future, when he advocates for federal dollars to invest in the region.

Fuhr says there's multiple industries that could benefit.

"Tech, tourism, agriculture, aerospace, and academia. Academia's been a huge benefactor of investment, and I think UBC alone is pushing $18.5 million worth of investment just since the federal election, which is a great place to invest," he said.

"Automation and the digital economy are going to change a lot of things, and we have to start training our young people differently than we used to."

Fuhr says the MPs will meet during the day, and have time for some events, including ones for the public, during the evenings.

"There will be a public event that everyone can attend, as far as I know. Some of them (MPs) are coming a couple days before, and a couple days after. There'll be other things in the evening, and other opportunities for elected officials to connect with the community and stakeholders," he said.

The Liberal caucus is made up of Fuhr, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and 181 other MPs.
