Kelowna BC Transit bus involved in crash Friday morning

Two BC Transit passengers suffered minor injuries Friday morning in Kelowna, when the bus they were riding on stopped suddenly to avoid a more serious collision with a passenger vehicle.

Kelowna RCMP say just before 11:00 am, officers responded to a report of a collision involving a Transit bus and a Mercedes SUV on Pandosy Street near Royal Avenue.

Police say the northbound transit bus was merging back onto the road from a stop, when the driver of the Mercedes passed and pulled in front of the bus using the left hand turn lane.

The bus driver was forced to brake suddenly causing minor damage to the SUV - the bus itself appeared undamaged.
Several Transit  passengers were pitched forward, and at least one passenger was thrown from her seat and landed on the floor. She was assessed and treated at the scene.

It's also believed that another passenger, who had been standing at the time, struck a pole. He also sustained minor injuries and was treated at Kelowna Hospital.

A woman and her baby, in a stroller, also onboard were reportedly uninjured.

The driver of the Mercedes, a woman in her 40's, has been ticketed for an alleged unsafe lane change.
