New rankings list Okanagan outside of Canada's top places to live

An annual list of the top places to live in Canada has been released.

MoneySense magazine ranked 415 cities and towns in its list, which didn't flatter the Okanagan.

West Kelowna was ranked 220th, with Kelowna in 250th spot.

Despite getting highly ranked in categories like weather and ammenities, the region's lack of affordability is what pushed down its rankings.

Meanwhile, Vernon sits at number 370, while Penticton was ranked 383rd.

Lake Country was placed at 357th, with Summerland at 369. Peachland was not ranked on the list.

The top ranked place to live on the list was Oakville, Ontario - a town of roughly 200,000 about 40 minutes outside metro Toronto.

BC didn't crack the list until Fort St. John, which was in 15th place.

Whistler came in at number 20, while Vancouver made the list at 83.

West Vancouver and North Vancouver were ranked marginally higher.

The list is built by ranking municipalities in ten different categories, from economy and affordability to crime, and culture.

Those categories are also weighted differently, with affordability outranking weather, for example.
