Rail Trail fundraising almost at halfway mark

The Okanagan Rail Trail has received its largest single donation so far.

A $500,000 Rural Dividend grant from the province over the weekend brings the total amount of money raised for the project to over $3 million.

On AM1150’s Early Edition, Trail Ambassador Brad Clements says if things keep going the way they are the trail could be complete by next year.

“We’re having more businesses reach out wanting to get involved,” he says “Somehow we’re seeing this next wave of support coming from the community and I truly think maybe some were waiting to see what would happen with this thing and we’re on our way now”

The 48.5 kilometre long corridor will begin in downtown Kelowna and go all the way to Coldstream.

The estimated cost to build the trail is 7.86 million dollars.
