Rockets open house

The Kelowna Rockets are holding an open house tomorrow from noon to 3.

Prospera Place will be all set up for a ball hockey tournament, and that will give prospective season ticket buyers an idea of the sight lines during Rockets games.  A strong season ticket base will help the team's bid for the 2020 Memorial Cup.  “ If we can get people back on board and get our season ticket base up to where we want it to be, that’s probably one of the biggest things when we present is, ‘You guys don’t need to worry.  We’re gonna be sold out’ and that would speak volumes,” said Rockets Vice-President, Gavin Hamilton.

Hamilton is fully aware of concerns over what the ticket prices would be if the team was awarded the tournament over the other bidders from Lethbridge, Kamloops and Victoria.  Poor attendance at this year’s tournament in Regina is being blamed on outrageous ticket prices.  “There’s a certain level you can reach in pricing and we need to stay within that.  Having said that, there is a cost to holding (the tournament).  Our committee is really, really going to come up with a solid business plan but also keep our season ticket holders and our fans in mind.  We want them in the building.  We don’t want it to be an ‘elite’ event.”

Next week the team plans to send out emails to season ticket holders to give them first crack at buying tickets to the Vancouver Canucks-Arizona Coyotes pre-season game at Prospera Place, on September 29th.  Hamilton said, “All of our season ticket holders get the first option before they go to the Canucks season ticket holders or anybody else.”
