Rutland house fire kills animals Sunday afternoon

A fire at a home in Rutland, Sunday afternoon, killed a number of animals.

When Kelowna fire crews arrived, at around 2:00 pm, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the rear of the house on McKenzie Road near McCurdy.

Once the fire was out, firefighters searched the building and found 4 dogs, a cat and a duck had died - no people were home at the time.

The fire caused extensive damage to the rear of the main floor and deck, and caused heavy smoke damage throughout.
