Surgical wait times at Interior Health analysed

Are you in need of knee replacement or hip surgery in Interior Health?

You will have to wait.

A report on surgical wait times shows patients across Canada waited 182 days, or 6 months to have the procedure completed.

In Interior Health, which includes the entire Okanagan, 47 percent of patients needing knee replacement were able to hit that benchmark while the same was true for 51 percent of hip replacement patients.

Karen Bloemink is the VP of Clinical Operations and says Interior Health is trying to improve on those wait times.

"Interior Health has done a great job of increasing the number of hip and knee surgeries for our patients. Specifically, we have preformed 765 more hip and knee surgeries this year as compared to last year which is a 25 percent increase."

Fraser Health fared the best in B.C. at 77 percent for hip and 63 percent for knee replacement surgery.
