Tis the season for snow warnings and snow tires

Welcome to October and welcome to snow tire season.

Several areas of the province are being hit today. Most noteably, the Rogers Pass into the Alberta Foothills where up to 25 centimeters of snow is expected through tomorrow. Also tomorrow, the temperature at the summits of the Okanagan Connector and the Coquihalla highways will drop below zero, turning rain to snow.

Environment Canada spokesman Matt MacDonald says we are too often surprised by the onset of winter conditions and drive unprepared. He recommends snow tires and caution when driving mountain passes from now on.

October 1 is the day that snow tire and chain up regulations go into effect across the province on designated highways. If you are pulled over without snow tires, the fine is $109.00.
