Vigil at Kelowna Islamic Centre this evening

A vigil will be held this evening at the Kelowna Islamic Centre honouring the six people killed in a mass shooting at a Quebec City mosque on Sunday.

Five people were seriously wounded in the attack - with four victims still in hospital.

Kelowna Islamic Centre board member, Hamid Butt, says the local congregation was shocked and saddened by the attack in Quebec, but have been heartened by the outpouring of support from Kelowna residents.

The alleged shooter in the Quebec massacre, Alexandre Bissonette, is a 27-year-old student who some say was introverted and held far right-wing views.

The vigil will begin at 6:30 pm at the Kelowna Islamic Centre on Highway 33 in Rutland.
