West Kelowna to replace Gellatly Road bridge
West Kelowna City Council will hear an update tomorrow on replacing the Gellatly Road bridge over Powers Creek. The bridge is at the end of its life and will be raised substantially. It's all part of the master plan to make flood prone areas safer.
Alan Fillion is General Manager of Engineering and Public Works says, "What we're proposing is to do the work from January to May next year, when it's not so busy down there."
They may have to shut the road down but are exploring options. Fillion says, "We are looking to see if we can bring in a temporary bridge, but don't know all of our options at this point."
Fillion says they're about 30 percent into the project. It's at the design phase right now.
The cost to replace the bridge is about 2 million dollars.
