North Okanagan residents are supporting a petition to give paramedics the same collective bargaining rights as firefighters and police officers.
Currently paramedics in BC are not deemed as an essential service.
Local spokesperson Dean Perry says. "Local canvassers are extremely grateful for the public sported. We received an amazing 2707 signatures at 3 events this last week. We are confident we will reach the required 4750 signatures in the Vernon Monashee electoral district and 4091 for Shuswap."
Perry says the support is overwhelming, just about everyone asked is more than happy to sign the petition.
He's encouraging everyone who hasn't signed to come out to one of the signing events:
Tuesdays Save On Foods, Shops at Polson Park 2pm-6pm
Thursdays Save On Foods, Village Green Centre 10am-6pm
Friday March 24 at Askews Foods in Armstrong 2-6pm
Askews Foods 2701 11 Ave NE in Salmon Arm 10:00am-3Pm
Perry say canvassers got 1370 signatures at the Super Store on Saturday, which is a provincial record for this petition for a one day event.
