Gardiner earns ECHL honour

After leading the Kelowna Rockets in playoff scoring last season, Reid Gardiner is turning heads in pro hockey.

The 22 year-old has been named to the 2017-2018 East Coast Hockey League All-Rookie Team.

The Wheeling Nailers forward has 28 goals and 54 points this season.

"The way I look at it, this is my first full year of professional hockey. I just want to soak it all in and learn as much as I can and play as well as I can", Gardiner told AM 1150 News late last month.

Gardiner's 28 goals has him tied for second among ECHL rookies.

"I think I need to work on my skating, which I have really improved on in the last 4 to 5 years. I am constantly trying to improve on that. Something I didn't know I had to improve on was probably my consistency game to game and shift to shift", Gardiner added.

Gardiner was acquired by the Kelowna Rockets last season at the trade deadline and set a franchise record with 15 goals in last years post season.
