A former first round WHL bantam pick of the Kelowna Rockets is headed to school.

Twenty year-old Jonathan Smart has committed to the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds.

Born in Kelowna, Smart played in the Western Hockey League with the Rockets, the Regina Pats and the Kootenay Ice.

Smart was chosen 22nd overall in the 2014 draft and dressed in 68 regular season games with the Rockets before requesting a trade.

The d-man was dealt to the Pats for James Hilsendager and forward Erik Gardiner.
