Rockets lose game 5
The Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Kelowna Rockets 5-3 on Friday night in the ShoWare Center in Kent, Washington in game five of the Western Conference Championship of the 2017 WHL Playoffs.
Seattle opened the scoring 3:15 into the first period as Scott Eansor scored a shorthanded goal for his fifth of the post season. At 10:57 Sami Moilanen(4) made it 2-0 Thunderbirds. The Rockets responded at 12:07 on the power play as Calvin Thurkauf(8) tipped home a Reid Gardiner shot pass. The score was 2-1 after 20 minutes.
Nick Merkley(6) tied the game 9:23 into the middle frame on the power play. Then at 17:34 Alexander True(6) scored on the power play before Ryan Gropp scored a power play goal of his own 1:20 later. Seattle took a 4-2 lead into the final stanza.
True(7) extended the Thunderbirds lead by three 6:57 into the third. Dillon Dube(7) made it 5-3 with 35 seconds to play but that would be it as Seattle takes game five, final score 5-3.
Michael Herringer stopped 19 of 24 shots faced as the Rockets outshot the Thunderbirds 40-24.
The T-Birds now lead the best-of-seven series 3-2.
