Rockets pick early in import draft

The Canadian Hockey League Import draft is June 27th by conference call.

The Kelowna Rockets will select 13th overall.

The team will make one selection with the hope that Finnish defenceman Lassi Thomson will return to the team, despite reports he will play pro hockey in Finland next season.

Previous selections by the Rockets at the draft include Lassi Thomson, Tomas Slovak, Alexander Edler and Calvin Thurkauf.

The highest the team has selected was 4th overall, when Tomas Slovak was chosen.

A second round pick of the Nashville Predators in 2001, the Czech born d-man was a member of the Kelowna Rockets 2002-2003 WHL championship team.

Slovak still hold the club record for goals, assist and points in a season by a European defenceman (18+53=71).
