Rough'n up the Royals

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Victoria Royals 9-2 on Friday night in the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria.

Kelowna's James Hilsendager opened the scoring 2:37 into the game for his second of the season. Under three minutes later the Royals responded. Then Dillon Dube took over, scoring at 7:54 of the first, then again just 19 seconds later to give the Rockets a 3-1 lead headed into the second period. Carsen Twarynski assisted on both of Dube's goals, recording his first two points as a Rocket.

Halfway through the second period Dube scored his third of the night for his first career WHL hat-trick. Devante Stephens, Tomas Soustal, Jack Cowell, and Reid Gardiner also added second period markers for the Rockets. Victoria would score with 21 seconds remaining in the period and the Rockets led the Royals 8-2 going into the final stanza.

Erik Gardiner would score in the third period for the Rockets and that would be the final goal of the night with the score finishing 9-2 Rockets.

Dube finished the night with three goals and one assist.

Michael Herringer improved to 19-10-2-0 on the season.

The Rockets improve to 26-15-3-0 on the year pushing them into second place in the B.C. division.

The Rockets are back in action on Monday afternoon when they face the Everett Silvertips at 2:00PM.

The Rockets next home game is Wednesday January 18th when the Rockets host the Moose Jaw Warriors at Prospera Place.
