UBCO's Fagan wins gold at cross-country nationals
For the first time in its history, the UBCO Heat women's cross country team is home to the fastest woman of the year.
At the Cross-Country National Championships in Quebec on Saturday, West Kelowna's Veronika Fagan won gold in the women's 6 km race, finishing with a time of 21 minutes and 42 seconds.
She finished 14 seconds ahead of hometown favourite Jade Bérubé, and nearly a full 20 seconds in front of the bronze medallist.
Fagan's top finish also helped UBCO win a bronze medal in the overall team standings.
The third-year nursing student finished 19th place in the 5k run two years ago, and just missed medalling last year, finishing fourth.
It's UBCO's third team podium finish in as many years, after winning gold at last year's event, and silver two years ago.
Along with her individual gold, Fagan was named as a CCAA All-Canadian athlete, thanks to her Top-10 finish.
