CEO Elanie Whitmore says when the centre first opened in 1978 it was assisting 150 families per year.

She says the centre is now providing services to more than 3000 families.

"Luckily we don't have huge waiting lists, we do have some waiting lists but we really work very hard to get those children in and scene as quickly as possible so that there needs can be met," says Whitmore.

Whitmore says the centre is an important part of the community.

"We really try to make it a family atmosphere, very supportive and family centred approach to care," says Whitmore.  "So that the families are constantly involved in the decisions that are being made and on the choice of goals and priorities that they would like to have their child work on and again the child often gives their input as well too."

The centre is located on Matchette Road across from Mic Mac Park.
