A's Pummel Tigers in Series Opener

The Detroit Tigers opened a four-game MLB series with the Oakland Athletics at Comerica Park Thursday afternoon.

The A's pounded out 16 hits, including five home runs, in a 17-3 rout of the Tigers.

Detroit has lost four straight and has surrendered 41 runs over that span.

The lone bright spot for the Tigers was Dawel Lugo, who was called up from the minors.  Lugo hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Spencer Turnbull (2-3) was tagged with the loss after giving up five hits and six runs (five unearned) over four innings.

The teams continue the series Friday at 7:10pm.
