Alley Lights Coming To Downtown Windsor
Alley lights are coming to downtown Windsor.
Windsor City Council unanimously approved three alley lights in the areas of Victoria and Dougall as well as at Wyandotte and Elliott at a cost of $3,500 which will come from the ward fund in Ward 3.
Along with the alleys, council asked city administration to come back with a policy regarding alley lights in the future.
The issue came to the forefront after Councillor Rino Bortolin insinuated there wasn't any money for alley lights but Mayor Drew Dilkens says the money was there all along.
"The money existed," says Dilkens. "He had the money in his ward fund and he could have at any time done what he did in 2015 and come forward with locations that he wanted to install alley lights for whatever reasons, safety or esthetics or any other reason that he was looking for."
Dilkens takes issue with the notion the city was blocking alley lights from being installed when he says 'there never was a barrier.'
There were 36 delegations listed to speak on the issue.
