Amherstburg Sculptor to Replace Stolen Jeanne Mance Monument
A monument outside of Windsor Regional Hospital will be replaced after it was stolen last month.
The copper bust of Jeanne Mance, a legendary nursing figure in Canadian health care history, was taken outside of the Ouellette campus.
Hospital officials say after learning of the theft, a local sculptor has agreed to design and create a replacement for the sculpture.
Richard Wood, a retired Ford factory worker and Amherstburg resident, is doing the work for free. “It is an honour and a privilege to assist the Windsor Hospitals by replacing the face of Jeanne Mance on this historic monument,” Wood says. “She is an important Canadian figure in Nursing and I am happy to help preserve her memory in honour of all the nurses in our community."
Windsor Police continue to investigate the theft.
