Area Youths Share Ideas For New Youth Policy
Local youth are giving ideas and suggestions for Canada's new youth policy.
For Youth, With Youth is holding consultations around the country and group members recently paid a visit to Windsor to gather input.
Iman Berry is a Grade 12 student at Vincent Massey.
She helped organize the local consultation and says youth care about the issues happening in our country.
"Our main goal is to input from youth from all different backgrounds and all different cities about the issues that that they care about," says Berry. "Some topics and themes that we're focusing on are health and wellness, indigenous rights, justice and equality."
She says youth want to have a voice.
"We're getting youth input with a youth lens and prospective on all of these issues and we're getting their policy recommendations to send to Ottawa to get input into the new youth policy," says Berry.
Berry says a number of topics have been discussed such justice and equality as well as indigenous rights.
"I know a lot of students referenced geography class were they learned about indigenous rights and how they want to learn more about this and brings education to a lot of people," says Berry. "So we're just hearing their prospective through their stories."
Berry says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discussed the new youth policy earlier this year.
For Youth, With Youth is holding consultations in 25 other cities across the country as well.
