Bernauer Family Contacts Aburg's Mayor

Amherstburg Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says he's been contacted by the family of Emily Bernauer.

As heard on AM800 news on Monday, the family is looking to meet with the mayor.

They are calling for the resignation of Amherstburg Police Chief Tim Berthiuame.

The family is accusing the chief of misleading the community following the death of their 18-year-old daughter in September 2014.

DiCarlo says he's unsure if he'll meet with the family.

"It's hard to say at this point," says DiCarlo.  "The obvious people I got to talk to is the police chief and some legal counsel and until I do that, that's probably about the best I could offer at this point."

On Monday, the Shores of Erie International Wine Festival was fined more than $65,000 for two liquor licence offences following the death of 18-year-old Emily Bernauer.

The festival corporation has six months to pay the fine.

Bernauer died in a crash after leaving the event in 2014.

She had been working in the Sobey's booth and consumed alcohol.

Festival Chairperson Karen Gyorgy says the event will no longer happen.

Police have said Bernauer was not wearing her seat belt, was texting and had marijuana in her system.
