Big Crowds For Opening Day At Leamington Raceway
Opening Day is in the books at Leamington Raceway.
Big crowds turned out for the return of harness racing which is back for the fifth straight year with 13 race dates in 2018.
Jockey and Director of the Lakeshore Horse Racing Association Mark Williams says they've got lots in store for the upcoming race season.
"I'll guarantee you the committee, those ladies, they've got events for every day and we, yet once again, can't appreciate anymore the support that we get from the local fans."
He says there's a buzz around town when the horse racing season begins.
"People are excited to see it coming back and I'm going to Toronto next week actually to advocate for some more money for our purses. We've got, how would you put that, lots of wood on the fire. We're trying to do all we can to make it the best experience and the best we possibly can."

Williams says race goers won't be disappointed with the mix of action.
"We're getting all kinds of nice horses. That whole field is full of top level horses for the area. Then, of course, we always try to put on lots of young horse racing because Leamington is definitely a training ground for these young horses to get their first start."
Horse racing continues next Sunday at Leamington Raceway and continues every Sunday afternoon until October 28.
