Blackhawks Icon Mikita Dies

The Chicago Blackhawks have announced the passing of one of the team's all-time great players — Stan Mikita has died at the age of 78.

The team announced Mikita's death today but did not disclose details, only saying he was with his family.

Mikita helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 1961 and served as the team's ambassador beginning in 2007.

Mikita is the Chicago Blackhawks career leader in assists (926), points (1,467) and games (1,394), and is second to Bobby Hull with 541 goals.

He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983.
