Boone To Manage Yankees

The New York Yankees are naming 2003 ALCS hero Aaron Boone their next manager.

The team tabbed Boone as the 33rd skipper in team history yesterday and a news conference is scheduled for tomorrow at noon.

The 44-year-old Boone has never managed or coached at any level and recently served as an ESPN analyst.

He beat out Giants bench coach Hensley Meulens for the job.

Boone replaces Joe Girardi, who was not offered a new contract after he concluded a four-year deal in October.

The Yankees went 910-and-710 with six playoff appearances in 10 seasons under Girardi, who guided the team to a World Series title in 2009.   New York fell one win shy of advancing to the Fall Classic this year after losing to the Houston Astros in seven games.
