Busy Strawberry Festival Weekend
Despite some rain, organizers of the LaSalle Strawberry Festival are pleased with this year's event.
The 31st annual festival wrapped up on Sunday at Gil Maure Park.
Festival co-chair Crystal Meloche says official attendance numbers are still unknown but believes the figures will be similar to last year's event — between 25,000 to 27,000 people.
"Thursday, Friday we were on track as the same numbers as the previous year," says Meloche. "A little bit of the rain Saturday slowed things down but last year we had extreme heat so I would think we're probably pretty close to what we had last year."
She feels the community enjoyed the event, adding "it was a really busy weekend from Thursday thru Sunday. We sold out of our strawberries and ice cream on Sunday which is always great. Just lots of new things going on throughout the park and who heard great things from people who came, from some who never been there before and some who have come every year for the last 20-something years."
The event featured rides and games, a parade, fireworks, live entertainment and 300 flats of strawberries.
The organizing committee will get together in a couple weeks for a final wrap up meeting.
