Busy Time For CAA
The recent cold spell has been record-setting for CAA.
Between Boxing Day and New Year's Day, the auto club dispatched 39-thousand calls for help between Kingston and Windsor.
That's a 56-percent increase over the same time a year ago.
CAA South Central Ontario Spokesperson Nadia Matos says in Windsor alone, there were about 693 calls that week.
She says the calls were mainly battery related.
"We actually get more calls during a cold snap than we do on a snowy winter day and that's because of our batteries," says Matos. "As soon as the temperature dips below freezing a weak battery loses about 35-percent of its power so if your battery is in a weaken state, it won't start on a day like today."
December 27th was the busiest day with more than 9100 services calls, most for battery service.
On that day the temperature dropped to minus-20.
