Charges Laid In Weekend Stabbing
Charges have now been laid following a stabbing at Windsor Regional Hospital.
It happened Saturday afternoon in the main lobby of the Ouellette Campus.
Investigators say a 17-year-old male patient from the hospital had been walking with a relative, approaching the elevators.
Police say as a 26-year-old female patient at the hospital got off the elevators, the 17-year-old pulled out a knife and stabbed the woman in the back of the neck.
The relative of the offender quickly restrained and disarmed the teen.
The victim received immediate medical attention and is recovering in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Windsor Police Sergeant Steve Betteridge says it appears the boy and woman did not know each other.
"Our Major Crimes Branch is actively still investigating this incident but all indications so far is that it was an unprovoked attack and they did not know each other," says Betteridge.
The 17-year-old male, who can't be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with one count of aggravated assault.
