City Gathering Ideas For Parks Master Plan

The City of Windsor is gathering input as it creates a Recreation Master Plan.

Two Open Houses have been held, one at Devonshire Mall and another at the Windsor International Aquatic Centre.

This is an early stage of the process, with the goal of bringing the final plan to council next spring.

It will address major facilities like arenas, soccer pitches and swimming pools but also smaller venues and alternative ideas.

"What I'm hoping for is a ping pong table in Central Park," says resident Bev Timson. "They have two outdoor ping pong tables already and they're a lot of fun and I'd like to play ping pong with my grandkids in Central Park."

Resident Dave says as Canada's Motor City, we should have spaces for certain hobbyists.

"I think it would be nice if the people have a place where they could run radio controlled cars and maybe their drones in a controlled situation and even mini-bikes and go-carts," he says.

Executive Director of Recreation and Culture, Ray Mensour, says it's important to hear what people want.

"This is a very critical stage for us as we're getting feedback from the public, not only our users but also the general public.  We want to hear from everyone, we want to get everyone's opinion of what we have in terms of facilities venues services we offer and what they'd like to see."

People who didn't get an opportunity to attend the open houses can offer their thoughts online.
