Coyote Warning Issued By LaSalle Police

LaSalle Police are warning pet owners about coyotes attacks on dogs.

Two coyotes attacked a dog on a trail near McNabb Avenue and Morton Drive. The pet survived but suffered lacerations and needed treatment from a vet.

Police have issued a warning to residents who walk their dogs on trails in the area. They suggest keeping your dog on the leash and scoop up any droppings because the smell attracts coyotes.

A LaSalle Police tweet suggests users be aware that coyotes are most active at dawn, dusk and when it's dark.

If you encounter one of the animals, police recommend that you back away calmly but don't turn your back.
