CUPE Local 543 Helps 600 Families With Thanksgiving Meals
Hundreds of families and individuals will have a full belly this Thanksgiving weekend, thanks to Canadian Union of Public Employees Local ocal 543.
The union donated 500 turkeys and 100 chickens to people who need the help this holiday season. It also came with apples, carrots, onions, potatoes, stuffing, cookies and a bag of candy.
Union retiree Marie Renaud says it's a great time to give back.
"There are so many things for families going on at Christmas time and we said let's do Thanksgiving and people are so grateful," says Renaud. "We like to give back to our community because they do a lot for us. We are municipal employees and that's what we are here for."
She says the food was paid using union dues.

Executive Director of the Unemployed Help Centre June Muir says it's what the holiday is all about.
"There are many people that would not sit down to a turkey dinner and we all enjoy a turkey dinner so I am really happy," says Muir.
The food was handed out at the Unemployed Help Centre, Salvation Army, Downtown Mission, Drouillard Place and Windsor Lifeline Outreach.
