Tecumseh council made the decision to offer the program free of charge following a presentation from the Essex Region Conservation Authority Tuesday night where Director of Watershed Management Tim Byrne warned projections show lake levels will eclipse the previous 1986 record high sometime in June, July or August.
The program will cost the town an estimated $50,000.
Tecumseh is joining Lakeshore, Leamington, Essex, Amherstburg and Windsor in offering sand and sandbags to residents.
