Detroit Police Officers Suspended Over Racist Snapchat Video
Detroit Police Chief James Craig is placing two officers on paid suspension over what he's calling a racially insensitive Snapchat video.
Officer Gary Steele is accused of using a Black History Month filter on video of a woman walking home in the cold after being stopped for an expired license plate.
The chief says the officer made the right call to pull the woman over, but should not have made the video.
He also says body camera footage shows the officer offered the woman a ride home, which she declined.
Last week, Chief Craig demoted Steele from the rank of corporal and is reassigning him after the investigation revealed a similar incident in December 2017 involving Steele.
The name of a second suspended officer has not been released.
