Dike Repairs in Chatham-Kent Are Working

Repairs done to leaking dikes along the Thames River in Chatham-Kent appear to be holding.

This comes as part of an update from Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff's office.

According to the release, staff and contractors worked through night Friday into Saturday to carry out any necessary repairs.

Officials say water levels have decreased by as much as 12 inches and continue to recede.

The situation remains uncertain due to an ice jam that remains just east of Lighthouse Cove.

As heard on AM800 News on Friday, a state of emergency was declared after the failure of a dike in the Tilbury area.

Canniff says the state of emergency will remain in place until the situation has fully stabilized.
