Doug Ford New Leader Of Ontario PC Party

Doug Ford is the new leader of Ontario's Progressive Conservatives.

The announcement finally came late Saturday night after a seven hour delay as party officials reviewed the results of the vote.

As heard during AM800's live coverage, several sources say former Tory legislator Christine Elliott and Doug Ford were only separated by a 1% margin, but Elliott demanded a recount.

Caroline Mulroney and parental rights advocate Tanya Granic Allen were also up for the top spot following the departure of former leader Patrick Brown.

Ontario PC MPP Vic Fedeli served as interim leader after Brown stepped down amid sexual misconduct allegations in January.

Brown briefly stepped up to regain his role as leader after, but withdrew to focus on legal action against what he claims are false accusations from CTV News — CTV News says it stands by its reporting.
