Eight Local Groups Share In $50k Thanks To Denim & Diamonds Gala
Eight local organizations are getting a helping hand thanks to the 'Denim and Diamonds Gala'.
About 200 people attended the event back in November 2017 which is organized by the Circle of 7 group.
The group is donating $50,000 to the different organizations which include the Alzheimer's Society, Canadian Mental Health Association, Handi Transit and the local chapter of Autism Ontario.
Chapter President Barb Masotti says it received $10,000 which will be used to fund its music and arts therapy program for a year.
"Many of the services that our families do require for their children are extremely expensive and this is like gold."
Masotti says the funding will be a big help.
"It is not a disease, it is who they are. There is no cure, but there are many things that we can do for these kids to reach their potential wherever that potential is."
Circle of 7 President Tony Haddad says the money goes a long way for the organizations.
"You can tell from the majority of these groups that they are self-funded, they don't receive funding from provincial or federal organizations. So anything that is contributed to them makes a huge difference."
The Canadian Mental Health Association will use the money for its Sole Focus Project and the Alzheimer Society will use its portion to reduce wait lists for its day program.
The Circle of 7 is a group of seven men who work as a team to help the community.
To date, the group has contributed $3-million to local organizations.
The upcoming 6th annual 'Denim and Diamonds Gala' is set for November 3, 2018.
