EnWin Disconnections Resume May 1st
Despite colder than seasonal temperatures, spring is here, and so is the chance that past-due hydro accounts could be disconnected.
EnWin Utilities is getting the word out — if a customer's bill is past due on May 1st — payment arrangements need to be made or the disconnect process will begin.
In November of 2017, the Ontario Energy Board permanently banned utility companies from disconnecting residential customers for non-payment from Nov. 15 to April 30 the following year — they were also required to resume service for customers who were cut off before the moratorium was issued.
The board argued no one's safety should be jeopardized over a utility bill during the winter months.
A statement from EnWin President and CEO Helga Reidel, asks customers who are behind, to contact the utility if they're behind on their bill.
According to the statement, the company will work with customers to find the best option to keep their account in good standing.
Reidel says there are several assistance programs available that can be found on Enwin's webpage, but customers are encouraged to call and ask for help before their bill is past-due.
