The Essex Region Conservation Authority is issuing an upgraded Flood Watch for the region as more rain is expected to roll through Windsor-Essex.
ERCA issued an original Flood Outlook statement on Friday at 4pm where it advised of the potential for adverse conditions.
Forecasts now predict up to 35mm of rainfall through the evening hours today with rainfall totals through Wednesday morning hitting up to 75mm. ERCA adds the system moving through the region also carries the risk of thunderstorms.
Temperatures are also expected to stay well above seasonal with daytime highs between 5 C (41 F) and 15 C (59 F) creating more snowmelt and runoff. The semi-frozen ground conditions mixed with more rainfall and snow melt creates the potential for flooding throughout the region, especially in low-lying areas.
ERCA advises residents to take extra caution and avoid rivers, lakes, ditches, streams and ponds. Any remaining waterways covered in ice will be unstable and dangerous.
ERCA will issue an updated statement as the authority continues to monitor weather forecasts.
The Flood Watch advisory is in effect until 9am on Wednesday.
