Essex Creates Marketing Fund for Non-Profit Events
A new fund has been launched to help non-profits market events in Essex.
The Essex Tourism Events Fund will provide successful events with up to $2,000 to help promote and bring new visitors into the town.
Economic Development Officer Nelson Silveira says organizers have made their way to council asking for help in the past.
He says $35,000 has been earmarked for 2019 so new and existing non-profits can go straight to administration for approval.
"We want to be proactive here and provide those groups with a fund that's already in place for them to apply to," he says. "We provide other services as well; it's not just the grant. If they need help with getting an ad on social media we have a great communications manager who's willing to work with them with that as well."
Silveira says a couple thousand dollars may not seem like much, but it can go a long way in helping get the word out.
"Non-profit groups sometimes don't have the capacity or the budget to market an event and attract residents from outside the municipality so we want to help in that way. We want to do everything that we can to help attract more attention to those successful events within the Town of Essex," says Silveira.
Silveira tells AM800 News it's a win for everyone involved.
The town's helping organizers draw in more people to boost their non-profit event and the increased tourism helps the town's economy.
"Trying to attract new attendees to events in the Town of Essex and that's where we're willing to help. We have the capacity to help non-profit groups that are throwing successful events. It's mainly for the marketing side of things."
Local non-profits and even out of town non-profits that are holding events within Essex will be able to apply for funding once per year.
Silveira says it's as simple as filling out an application on the town's website.
If the pilot project pays-off, he says more money may be provided moving forward.
