Ex-Catholic Central Basketball Coach Joins Express
Well known local high-school basketball coach Pete Cusumano is going pro.
After a stint with a private school, Cusumano is now an assistant coach with the Windsor Express.
Head coach Bill Jones says Cusumano brings a lot to the table.
"We knew Pete was a great coach at Catholic Central ... then he went on with a prep school," says Jones. "He loves the game of basketball, he's been working out some of our players in the summer and also my nephew."
Jones says Cusumano fills a space on the Express bench.
"His basketball knowledge to be able to invite him the opportunity to come and coach with us, this season we've lost a couple of our assistants," says Cusumano. "Dave Walls is going back to work at Catholic Central and Scott Newman took a job in the states at a high school."
The exact role Cusumano will fill is still needing to be decided.
Jones says Cusumano makes the choice difficult because his skill set is so wide ranging.
"In our conversation he said he's a jack of all trades, when he was coaching in high school he had to wear all the hats," says Jones. "He had to coach offence, defence, baseline, out of bounds, pressing, so we'll go ahead and find out as we get close to the season."
Jones says the team is still looking for two more assistant coaches to fill out their ranks.
