Flood Watch Issued as Winds Shift

A flood watch is now in effect for much of Essex County.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority says winds have shifted from the east to the south / southwest which has provided temporary relief to the Leamington shoreline.

ERCA says the predicted wind speed and direction is expected to change through today and overnight and combined with the elevated lake levels, there is the potential of erosion, damaging waves and spray along the Lake Erie shoreline from Amherstburg to Point Pelee and parts of Pelee Island.

Up to 20 mm of rain may fall today and there is also a risk of thunderstorms which may cause further flooding.

The Flood Watch is in effect until Monday, May 13 at 12 p.m.
