Ford Asks Teachers Not to Strike

Ontario's premier is asking teachers not to strike.

Contracts are set to expire at the end of the summer and Doug Ford says an Aug. 31 expiry date for teachers' contracts — right before kids go back to school — will never happen again under his government.

On Tuesday, Doug Ford was asked about the possibility of labour action and said teachers need to "get with the times."

He said they do a great job and he appreciates them but believes their unions are set on butting heads with government.

Ford says teachers have a pretty good deal with three months of holidays and the best benefits and pensions in Canada.

Teachers' unions have voiced concerns about recent changes to education that include larger class sizes for grades four to 12.
