Former Spitfires Assistant Takes Over OHL Champions Bench
Former Windsor Spitfires assistant coach Dave Matsos is taking over as the bench boss for the OHL champions.
The Hamilton Bulldogs announced Matsos as the team's new head coach after serving as an assistant this past season.
Bulldogs president and general manager, Steve Staios, feels it will be a seamless transition.
"At times there's situations where assistant or associate coaches go into a head coaching position could have a little bit of a challenge, I don't see that being the case with Dave," says Staios. "He certainly has a presence about him, he has his own personality."
Staios likes the skillset Matsos brings to the job.
"Without a doubt his ability to communicate with these players and that just comes from his own personality — it's the type of person he is, he's a realy caring guy," says Staios.
Matsos was hired as an assistant by the Spits in 2010 after Windsor's second of back-to-back Memorial Cup championships and went on to serve as head coach of the Sudbury Wolves for more than two years before going to Hamilton.
