Grants Available for Youth-Led Projects in Tecumseh, Leamington
Community grants will soon be offered in Tecumseh and Leamington for youth-led projects.
The RBC Future Launch Community Challenge announced a partnership with the towns along with Windsor Essex Community Foundation on Monday.
The challenge is designed to assist youth aged 15 to 29 with their ideas to address community needs.
Jonathan Santos is the Vice-President of Wealth Management for RBC in Windsor-Essex.
He tells AM800 News each municipality will get $15,000 and the grants will be distributed through the local community foundation.
"We really want them to come to us and our local communities come to us and give us the ideas of how they're going to empower themselves and the skills sets they need to learn," says Santos. "So we're learning more from them everyday then we are providing them that's for sure."
Santos says the projects may vary from addiction services to food security and the environment.
"Whether it be partnerships with local charities, starting businesses, starting initiatives within other charitable organizations things through universities, things through trade schools etc, really we've seen a host of different ideas and they've come to us with a lot of different solutions," says Santos.
Santos adds both municipalities applied to be apart of the grant program.
"The Town of Tecumseh, the Town of Leamington fit well due to the size and the scope and then also focusing on some of the challenges they want to address," says Santos.
The youth-led projects must address diverse and urgent local priorities.
Youths submitting a project are required to be working with a local charity.
