High Risk Move Pays Off For Lakeshore

The Lakeshore Canadiens now sit atop the Provincial Junior Hockey League's West Stobbs Division standings.

The Canadiens beat Blenheim, 4-3 in overtime.

The Canadiens were in need of the extra point to take over top stop. That's when head coach Anthony Iaquinta took a chance and pulled the goalie for the extra attacker in overtime.

His risk paid off as Matthew Smith scored the game winner.

Iaquinta says he would like home ice advantage throughout the entire playoffs. "Anytime you have a chance for home ice advantage all the way through you want to get it. Our home record is pretty good right now so it's something I think is pretty important, can't afford a tie or a loss so you kind of have to go for it."

Iaquinta says he's pretty sure fans were wondering what he was doing. "I'm sure many people were questioning because I'm sure they would be satisfied with a tie but knowing the situation kind of had to make a move."

Lakeshore out shot Blenheim 53-25.

With the win, Lakeshore moves one point ahead of Dresden in the division standings.

Both teams have one game left in the regular season.

Lakeshore plays at home on Friday against Petrolia while the Kings welcome Wheatley to Dresden.
