The 3rd annual Ed Jovanovski Charity Classic is set for this Friday at Pointe West Golf Club in Amherstburg.

Once again the proceeds will go towards fighting breast cancer, as Jovanovski's mother in a survivor of that disease.

In the first two years, the tournament has raised over $100.000 dollars for the charity.

Jovanovski, a Windsor native, how lives in Florida, but starred for the Windsor Spitfires in the early 90's before moving on to enjoy a fabulous NHL career.

He played more than 1,000 NHL games, was a first-overall pick of the Panthers, won World Jr Gold, along with Olympic Gold in his remarkable hockey career.

Jovanovski says this event is very important to him.

"The tournament is obviously close to our heart and having the opportunity to head into our third annual, we're excited," says Jovanovski. "We've raised some good money for the event."

Jovanovski tells AM800 Sports his mom battled her fight against breast cancer with determination.

"Seeing her go through the whole process and her going through her treatments and seeing her at the worst moments and continuing to stay positive and ask what we want for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with no energy, she is the true hero in our family."

Jovanovski adds his longtime friend, Scott Elliott has been a huge part of the organizing committee.

"He was my minor hockey coach, and we've kept in touch all these years, just shows what kind of guy he is for his family and through the dealership, we've had support of the tournament," says Jovanovski.
